As defined by the Andrew Weil Center, integrative medicine (IM) is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person. The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.

We believe:

1. Clients and providers are partners in true healing.

2. Many factors contribute to “dis-ease “ and need to be addressed in understanding "root cause" and achieving true healing including social, emotional, psychological and physical factors.

3. There are many healing modalities, conventional and alternative, that can augment a client’s innate healing process.

4. The most natural and least invasive interventions are an important part of a treatment plan.

5. Education and wellness are key aspects to health prevention and promotion.

Nurse practitioners (NPs) are nurses with advanced training in diagnosing and treating health conditions. NPs are master’s or doctorally prepared with numerous clinical and didactic hours in primary care, acute conditions, and chronic disease. NPs are required to undergo national certification, peer review, ongoing education, and professional development. NPs can provide a complete history and physical, order laboratory tests and imaging, interpret results, prescribe medications, counsel and educate clients. Many NPs also provide specialty services. We recommend visits to be at least 60 minutes, this gives plenty of time to understand the patient as a whole. For your first visit, you can expect a detailed history, exam (if in-person), treatment plan, discussion, and education. The integrative and functional medicine model looks at key hormonal systems for healing including the gut, the adrenals, and the reproductive hormones. We also assess for inflammation, toxins, and look at the immune system. We offer prescriptions of conventional medications, supplements, and herbs.We will suggest a combination of therapies aimed at the whole person including sleep, exercise, diet, stress management, mindfulness, energy healing, and spirituality.

The integrative and functional medicine approach requires multiple interventions over a period of time. Programs are based on a sequential multi-system work-up including lab tests and interventions as well as support while lifestyle changes are implemented. Programs are over 3-6 months and include time for provider research and consultation with other integrative and functional medicine specialists on special conditions.

Lab fees, supplements, and herbal medications are a separate cost.

Visits are available in-person at our office or via tele-health Zoom calls. Home visits are available with extra fees for travel time.

After a complete assessment including a health history, physical exam, and lab testing, your provider will suggest a combination of modalities including nutritional supplements, herbal formulations, appropriate diet and activity to optimize your health and well-being. We also encourage mindset work with health coaching and goal setting. We can prescribe medications and order conventional therapies if indicated.

We don't take insurance in our practice because we would like to provide more value to our patients. Insurance companies define the care and time we spend with patients and the added overhead and time it takes to process insurance paperwork takes time away from our patients. We want our patients to get more for their money and time!

We accept cash, Square for credit card, Venmo, Pay Pal, and Zelle.

Clients may use flexible spending (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) cards.

We are currently an “out-of-network” provider, which means you would pay for your care our of pocket. We will provide you with a detailed bill called a “superbill” which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most insurances cover “out-of-network” providers depending on your policy. There are also apps that can help you with this for a small fee. We recommend contacting your insurance company to be sure.

Unfortunately, Medicare does not reimburse for provider visits, but other services like labs and prescriptions are covered by Medicare.

Laboratory and imaging are billed separately by the laboratory and radiology companies, and insurance can be used to cover these services. Routine lab tests at Quest Diagnostics are usually covered by PPO and HMO plans. However, HMO plans may require your HMO's primary care provider to order them. Special tests for functional/integrative health may be covered and require you to check with your insurance company. Each company has a reduced cash pay price and many offer in-home lab testing which can be very convenient. Clients may use flexible spending (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) to cover the cost of labs. Many tests are covered by Medicare, but again it is up to the patient to check with their insurance company.

We offer lab testing from Quest Diagnostics, APMG, Boston Heart, Genova, ZRT, Alletess, KBMO Diagnostics, Cyrex, Doctor's Data, and Precision Analytical, to name a few. In-house laboratory testing: Urinalysis and pregnancy testing is available for $10/each.

We will prescribe medications through our online EHR system for herbal medications and supplements, as well as conventional medications. We offer many therapies through Fullscript at a 10% discount and/or will recommend where to purchase necessary medications. Most insurance plans do not cover supplements, however clients can use FSA and HSA accounts to cover these costs.

We encourage clients to call at least 24 hours in advance if they need to cancel or reschedule appointments. There is a $250 fee for a missed appointment.
